Negative Influences
Negativity surrounded me when I announced I was pregnant. In the beginning I felt alone and judged. I was one quarter away from graduating college when I found out I was pregnant. This should have been a happy time for me. Countless individuals said I wouldn’t graduate and I would never have a career. I was really hurt by this at first. I turned the negativity into motivation to prove them wrong. I graduated college when I was six months pregnant. Throwing up the whole way but I made it. My professors were very positive about my pregnancy. When I would go to the restroom during class to throw up, they understood. I carried toothpaste and a toothbrush every day to school. So that I could brush my teeth after and go back to class. I didn’t let my pregnancy stop me from my educational goals. I pushed though and graduated on time. My daughter was along for the ride, making me feel like I was not alone. Negativity can crush your spirit if you let it. Stay positive about your situation and look ahead. . I didn’t let the comments said to me listed bellow stop me. I did not allow these negative comments bring me down. If no one else was going to be happy about my pregnancy, I was going to be.
the reactions to my pregnancy said to me:
- How are you going to be a good mom when you have a service animal?
- Abort it
- They are going to take your baby because you get “sad”
- You aren’t going to finish school
- You ruined your life
- I will drive you to go get an abortion……. You are only going to have a Bachelors degree…you can’t take care of a baby with that
- you have to get rid of your service animal now
- You are going to pass that mental illness to your baby
